What we collect, why, who else sees it, and the choices you have.

weRoundUp, Inc. ("weRoundUp", "we", "us") makes an app for sending gifts and chatting with the people you give with. This page explains what we collect, why, who else sees it, how long we keep it, and what you can do about it. If something here is unclear, write to hello@weroundup.co.

This website

If you request a beta invitation on this website, we collect the email address, name and phone number you give us and anything you choose to tell us about your group. We use it only to contact you about access to weRoundUp. We do not sell it or share it with advertisers. To have it deleted, email hello@weroundup.co.

What we collect in the app

  • Your phone number, which is how you sign in and how friends find you. We check it by sending a code by text (see "Text messages").
  • Your name, and optionally a username and a profile picture.
  • Your messages, photos and documents, and who is in each chat, so we can deliver them and give them back if you change phones.
  • Your orders: which gift or top-up you bought, for whom, the amount and fees, the date, and the receipt. We do not store your card number: the payment company does.
  • A list of the phones you have signed in on, with the time and approximate place (an internet address), shown to you in the app under Login activity.
  • Your phone's notification address, so we can send you notifications. A notification never contains the text of a message and never shows an amount.
  • Reports and feedback you send us, and what is needed to look into a report.

Your contacts

We read the names and phone numbers in your phone's contacts only after you tap to choose from them and your phone's own permission box says yes. The names stay on your phone. To show you which of your contacts already use weRoundUp, your phone sends those numbers to our server, which answers with the ones that match and keeps nothing from the list. You can say no, and you can turn contacts off in your phone's settings at any time. We use your contacts for nothing else: not for advertising, and we do not sell them.

What we do with it

  • Run the service: sign you in, deliver messages, make and track gifts, and send the notices you ask for.
  • Keep it safe: stop fraud and abuse, enforce our terms, and follow the law.
  • Look after you: answer your questions and fix problems.

We do not sell your information, we do not show advertising, and we do not read your chats for advertising.

Who else sees it

We use companies that do parts of the job for us. They may handle your information only to do that job:

  • Stripe, which takes card payments. It sees your card details and the amount; we do not.
  • Zendit and Relograde, which supply the gift cards and top-ups we buy for you. Each receives what is needed to fill an order, such as the brand, the amount and, for a top-up, the phone number being topped up. They have their own terms.
  • Twilio, which sends sign-in codes and texts.
  • Google Cloud, which hosts our servers and database, and Expo with Apple and Google, which deliver notifications.

People you chat or give with see your name, your picture and what you send them. In a group gift people see who chipped in, never how much. We may also share information when the law requires it, to protect someone's safety, or if the company is sold, in which case this policy continues to apply to your information unless you are told otherwise.

Your messages

Messages, photos and documents are kept on our own servers. They are protected while they travel and while they are stored, but they are NOT end to end encrypted, which means weRoundUp can technically read them. Only the people in the chat can see them in the app. People who work on weRoundUp can read them only to look into a report, keep the service safe, or follow the law. Gift card codes are not part of chats: they are stored encrypted and shown only after you unlock them.

Text messages (SMS)

  • Program: weRoundUp texts you sign-in codes, and notices about gifts you send or receive, plus receipts.
  • How you agree: you give us your own number in the weRoundUp app and agree to our Terms and this policy before we send you a code. If someone sends you a gift by text, you get one text with a link for each gift.
  • What we send: sign-in codes, gift notices and receipts. We do not send marketing or promotional texts.
  • How often: one code each time you ask to sign in, and one text for each gift or receipt. Message frequency varies with what you do in the app.
  • Cost: message and data rates may apply.
  • To stop: reply STOP to any text and we will not text that number again. For help, reply HELP or write to hello@weroundup.co. Texts about your own sign-in cannot be stopped while you want to sign in.
  • Sharing: phone numbers and text-message opt-in data are not shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. They are shared only with the companies named above that help us send the messages.

How long we keep things

  • Messages, photos and documents: while your account is in use. If you do not sign in for 24 months, we delete your one to one chats. In a group chat, what you wrote stays for the other members and no longer shows your name.
  • If you delete your account in the app, we delete your one to one chats at once. In groups, what you wrote stays and no longer shows your name.
  • A reported message: a copy is kept for up to 12 months from the report, longer only if the law or the police require it.
  • Orders, payments and receipts: as long as the law requires us to keep financial records.
  • Backups: deleted data can remain in our backups for up to 30 days.

Your choices and rights

  • See and change your name, picture and username in the app.
  • Delete your account in the app. Write to us at hello@weroundup.co to ask for a copy of your information or to correct it.
  • If you live in a state with a privacy law (for example California), you may have rights to know, correct and delete what we hold and to say no to its sale or sharing. We do not sell or share your information for advertising. We will not treat you worse for using these rights.

Children

weRoundUp is for people 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone younger. If you think someone younger has an account, write to us and we will remove it.

Where your information is kept

Our servers are in the United States, and the people who use the service may be elsewhere. Using the app means your information is handled in the United States.

Changes and contact

If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will say so in the app before it takes effect. Questions and requests: hello@weroundup.co.
